SPOT-MAS Blood Test

Multi-Cancer Early Detection in One Blood Draw

Cancer is the number one cause of death in Singapore. Approximately 78% of cancer deaths are caused by unscreened cancers – such as liver, stomach, and pancreatic cancer – which often go undetected until it is too late.

At Angsana Medical, we offer the SPOT-MAS blood test, designed to detect early signals of cancer across 10 different organ systems. Located at 1 Everton Park (a 5-minute walk from Outram Park MRT), our clinic offers this innovative and minimally invasive blood test to help you detect cancers early, when they are most treatable. Why Early Cancer Detection Matters

Early-stage cancers are easier to treat and far more likely to be cured. Regular screening is essential because it helps identify problems before symptoms appear.

While traditional screening exists for specific cancers (like breast or colon), many deadly cancers lack routine screening options. SPOT-MAS changes this by offering a comprehensive screening for 10 cancers in a single appointment.

What Is the SPOT-MAS Cancer Blood Test?

The SPOT-MAS test is an innovative Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) tool, designed to screen for 10 different cancer groups using just one blood draw.

How it Works
Tumors naturally shed genetic material into the bloodstream. This test uses cutting-edge DNA sequencing and AI technologies to screen for circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) released from cancer cells, and screens for 75 cancer subtypes across 10 cancer groups in 1 blood draw.

How Accurate is it?
SPOT-MAS MCED’s performance for cancerous and pre-cancerous findings are:

  • 78% sensitivity
  • 99.8% detection specificity
  • 84% Accuracy in Tumour Localisation

Which Cancers can it Detect?
SPOT-MAS MCED screens for 10 cancers.

Who Should Consider Multi-Cancer Screening?

This test is recommended for adults aged 40 and above and for younger individuals with higher risk factors such as:

Heavy Smokers
Heavy Drinkers
Family History of Cancer
Genetic Predisposition: positive for inherited cancer genes (e.g., BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53)
Chronic Liver Disease
Lifestyle or Environmental Risk: eg. anyone exposed to significant carcinogens

Understanding Your Results?

Positive Result: We will advice you on which confirmatory diagnostic tests to do next
Negative Result: Routine follow-up would be recommended.
Indeterminate Result: A FREE retest will be done within 6 months to better stratify your risk

FAQ

Conventional tests measure proteins in the blood, which can be elevated for many non-cancerous reasons. SPOT-MAS MCED Test analyses DNA. This allows it to detect cancer signals earlier, often before the body produces measurable levels of tumour proteins.

The analysis is complex and thorough. It takes approximately 12 working days for your comprehensive report to be ready.

You should not take this test if:

– You are pregnant
– You are currently undergoing cancer treatment or have been in remission for less than 3 years
– You have had surgery, a blood transfusion, or an allogenic bone transplant within the last 2 weeks prior to sample collection

The test itself is a simple blood draw. However, it is vital to understand that it is a screening tool, not a diagnostic one. A positive result requires follow-up medical investigation to confirm a diagnosis. As with most tests, there may be false negative results as well.
